Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This might be a Syrah to stash in your cellar for up to a decade. Right now, it’s jammy and sweet in berries, currants, licorice and teriyaki beef, and seems abrupt and rustic. But the tannins are fantastic, and the acidity is just fine. Give it a good five years.

Rich, soft and creamy, with flamboyantly ripe raspberry and cherry pie filling, vanilla, roasted almond, honey and cinnamon spice flavors. Tastes like a granola fruit bar in wine form, with a pleasantly hot hit of alcohol. Drink now.

Young, fresh and tart now, with upfront cherry and raspberry jam flavors, and an edge of green mint jelly. Feels a bit sharp and simple, but sure is tasty. Drink now.

Picture-perfect Syrah, from the peppery-spicy aroma to the full-bodied mouthfeel and the lush, blackberry, blueberry and cassis flavors. With accents of tobacco, sweet leather, coffee and smoky sandalwood, it’s a soft, complex wine perfect for drinking now with a grilled steak.

An interesting wine that makes you pay attention. It’s creamy smooth and somewhat oaky, with a sweet vanilla smoke note to the tropical fruit, tangerine, peach, honeysuckle and spice flavors. There’s also plenty of acidity. Could have greater finesse and dryness, but the power is undeniable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a deeply ripe, authoritatively structured Syrah of great power and finesse. It’s drinkable now for the velvety texture and massive flavors of grilled blackberries, blueberries, currants, dark unsweetened chocolate, leather, black pepper and lots of sweet, smoky new oak. But it’s also fairly tannic. Very fine now, with a brief decant, and through 2013.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the biggest, most tannic and closed of the winery’s three new 2007 Syrahs, and also the one most likely to improve in the cellar. It’s intense and concentrated in pure blackberry and black cherry fruit, with the pepper, bacon, earth and smoky oak notes you want in a good 100% Syrah. But then, there are those big tannins. Give it a good 4–6 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made in a big, rich, heavy style, almost Rhône-like, and not showing the delicacy and elegance you want in a nice Pinot Noir. The flavors are of cherries, mulberries and cola. Will lighten up and sweeten as the years go by.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Extremely dry and tart, this wine has a punchy toughness, despite the presence of some pleasant cherry, blackberry and coffee flavors. Give it two or three years and hope it comes around.

Grape is the dominant fruit flavor here, jazzed up by spice, graham cracker and vanilla notes on both the nose and the palate. Has decent grip on the palate, and fades into a grape jelly/lollipop finish.
