Sweet and spicy nose, peppery and ripe, soft and earthy with a slightly stewed quality; sweet black fruits at the front of the mouth, but becoming very tannic and hard in the middle of the mouth that sucks the moisture out of the mouth; I remember this wine as being unbalanced in its youth, and I feel that it has not resolved that problem in middle age; strong finish with lots of fruit, but retains that over-the-top presence of hard tannins that mar the ending of this story. Very sweet nose, spicy, sour mash and pepper, powerful aromas, but with a slightly stewed character to the nose; sweet fruit with layered flavors that are both powerful and complex; lots of depth, but an overabundance of big forward tannins; quite dry at the finish now, but there is a lurking set of elements to this wine that are not yet evident, but should emerge in the next few years. (17.5 now)
