The Mervisano Barbera d’Alba (that ages 15 months in oak) offers a deliciously ripe and rich array of spice, black fruit and blackberry. The wine shows dark, inky concentration with creamy fruit tones and warm smoothness on the finish. The acidity is present, but very well integrated.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Executed in a plump, modern style (the wine is aged in small oak barrique), this delicious cru expression from Barbaresco is truly irresistible. The extraction is dark, thick and redolent of cherry, currant, blackberry, vanilla, spice and cinnamon. In the mouth, it is generous, smooth and long-lasting. This wine will appeal to modernists more than traditionalists.

Livraie is a thick, toasty red wine with tertiary aromas of candied fruit and lemon zest followed by mature fruit and dried prune. There’s a sweet note of oak in the mouth that recalls cinnamon and crushed clove.

Here is a lovely Barbaresco that delivers dark pulp and concentration followed by intense aromas of dark fruit, prune, spice, leather, bramble and cigar box. What helps make this wine stand out is its smooth, rich and enduring texture.

Nice complexity and vertical aromas of cola, licorice and cherry liqueur open the nose of this Riserva Barbaresco. The wine’s aromatic characteristics are very much in line with classic Nebbiolo and there’s a pungent or immediate quality as well. In the mouth, it shows dense, chewy consistency.

Here’s a bigger, more sophisticated expression of Barbera with thick concentration and loads of plum, blackberry and spice. The mouthfeel is thick and meaty and the wine offers a long, crisp finish. Very nice.
