Orogeny has a very good track record with their Chardonnay, and they’ve held back on the price, which is good news for consumers. The ’07 is oaky and ripe, with pineapple tart, pear jam, green apple butter, honey, vanilla cream and smoky cedar flavors.

Young and densely layered, this Pinot needs a little time to come together, although decanting will help soften it. The black cherry, red and black currant, cola and spice flavors finish with a bite of acidity. Best 2009-2012.

Marin is a cool place, but this wine is very ripe and jammy, although it does feature upfront acidity that smacks of the maritime influence. The flavors of raspberries and cherries are accented by smoky, vanilla-tinged oak.

A nice, drily silky Pinot Noir that shows the terroir of this cool part of Russian River Valley. Ready to drink now, it has crisp acids that frame cherry, cola, red currant, tea and mint flavors.

From this appellation in the southwest corner of Russian River Valley comes this big, dark, extracted, jammy, almost Rhône-style wine. It’s super-fruity in black cherry and oak flavors, but so full-bodied, you almost wonder if it is Pinot Noir. Still, it’s a very nice, well-balanced wine.

You get that Green Valley acidity in the tart, citrusy bite the wine takes on the palate, followed by a spicy followup of red cherries, cola and pomegranates. The finish is bone dry. This is a well-structured Pinot, elegant and sleek, that should hold and even improve for five years.

This is a big, rich Pinot Noir you might think was a Grenache. It’s that full-bodied. It’s pretty heavy for a Pinot, but it is delicious and fine in its own right. Shows ripe cherry tart, currant, licorice, bacon, sandalwood and spice flavors, with smooth, complex tannins. Now–2013.

A polished, pretty Pinot Noir, nice for drinking now and for the next few years. It’s dry and crisp, with a silky texture showing complex flavors of cherries, raspberries, currants, cola, pomegranates, anise, white pepper and sandalwood.

A little sharp in acidity and jammy, with cherry, wintergreen and cola flavors. Nice and dry, with a rich coat of sweet smoky oak, but that sharpness persists through the finish.

A captivating Chard that shows impeccable balance, and the price is very good for this level of quality. The fruit is brilliantly ripe in green apple, kiwi, Asian pear and lime flavors, with a deft touch of smoky oak. A firm minerality undergirds the structure.
