Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A tasty quaff from the well-known Sherry and Port house with good color, plummy aromas and a soft yet full mouth feel. The ripe cherry and cocoa flavors have instant appeal, as does the velvety texture. Though not deep, this is enjoyable. Closes easy, with cocoa and mild spice notes. Drink now–2004.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Osborne, which owns the Solaz label, got this Tempranillo-Cabernet blend right in 2005. The wine opens with light, spicy oak and healthy berry fruit aromas. The palate is juicy and fresh, with crisp red-berry and plum flavors and just the slightest brush of oak. Sturdy, composed and ready for the masses.

Aromas of olive, tobacco and dark plum are satisfactory and convincing. It tastes of black cherry and other berries wrapped into a short, stout package. Finishes simple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earth, tar and burnt sugar aromas aren’t all that appetizing, but the wine turns supple and smooth on the palate, adding caramel, toffee and white pepper to the flavor mix.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Vibrant to the point of spritzy, with more tartness than cushion. This is a sharp rendition of Viura that emphasizes grapefruit and lemon. It stretches astringency to its limit, and yet some may like it because it will never be confused for plodding.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
So thick and rich that it seems to fall apart in the mouth in pieces. There’s rum raisin on the bouquet and then backing aromas and flavors of prune, orange rind, toffee, peanut and chocolate. It’s rich, sweet and unctuous from start to finish, but with just enough balance and acidity to keep it upright. Sincere and delicious.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Caramel, molasses and spice aromas make this a totally approachable and familiar type of Sherry. The palate offers a round but zesty attack, with flavors of caramel, coffee, toffee, baked apple and orange peel. For the most part it’s racy and fresh, but finishing mushroom and pepper notes give it added character.

Pickled on the nose, with aromas that hint at white grapes such as Verdejo. This is jumpy and unsettled, with citrus and white grapefruit flavors leaving a tangy burn on the finish. Jangled and sharp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Osborne can usually be counted on for consistency and traditional flavors. But this Amontillado is all over the map. The nose has some harsh chemical compounds, while the palate is salty like a handfull of peanuts. Shows flashes but tends to fall back into a realm best left alone. Imported by W. J. Deutsch & Sons.

Nice and familiar, and very much in the sweet, creamy style. There’s almond candy and caramel on the palate and then maple syrup on the finish. Soft and sweet throughout, with just enough acidity and complexity to save it from being boring.
