Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A beautiful, complex wine, it begins with dense aromas of dark jammy fruit, anise, wax polish and leather. The palate is well balanced and the flavors are intense and have evolved well. The finish is medium long.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
At first the Palladino showed some sour apple notes, but with air became a little more friendly, with low intensity summer fruit. The wine seemed to peter out, and finish short.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Bricco delle Olive is an elegant and austere Barbera d’Alba with a dark color and rich concentration backed by bright acidity and polished tannins. This lively wine (from the 2006 vintage) still shows very good integrity of fruit.

Vigna Broglio is a ripe, jammy Barolo with bold notes of mature cherry and blackberry preserves. It tastes more like a Tuscan wine than one from the Langhe and offers syrupy fruit flavors that indicate a hot vintage or a low altitude vineyard. It’s soft in the mouth, however, and offers very smooth tannins. Drink 2012–2015.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Barolo Parafada is a very ripe expression of Nebbiolo with thick aromas of chocolate, raspberry, blueberry jam and cola that suggest hot growing conditions. The wine does have balance and structure though, especially in the mouth where firm tannins leave a lasting impression.

Riserva S. Bernardo has a fabulous nose of dusty mineral interwoven with dried cassis, natural rubber, licorice, anise and country earth. But it’s that extraordinary mineral note—think granite, black slate and pencil shaving—that really sets it apart. The wine is firm, well-structured and complex.

Palladino’s 2004 Barolo from Serralunga is a pretty little package with a vertical delivery of aromas and intense notes of red cherry, blackberry, vanilla and spice. It tastes plump, round and soft in the mouth, and it offers more cherry-berry flavors with a tight, succulent finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sheltered in the Broglio stream valley, the eponymous cru is considered among the best in Serralunga d’Alba. This is a mineral-driven Barolo that will not appeal to fruit bomb enthusiasts. Instead, the focus here is on elegance, linearity and smoky subtones. Pencil shavings and campfire ash form a tannic finish that is tight as a shell but smooth as a pearl.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dense and ripe, this Barolo exhibits bright aromas of cherry, blackberry, spice, leather and wet earth. It has a thick, inky finish with loads of syrupy mocha on the close. The tannins are tight but are balanced to the acidity and the fruit and will soften with five more years in the bottle.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From the Serralunga subzone of Barolo, this classic rendition of Nebbiolo opens with an orange-garnet color segueing into delicate aromas of licorice, mesquite, dried prune or plum and drying mineral notes. The wine presents a focused, linear feel in the mouth. Very nice
