Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Well oaked and smoky, with aromas of coffee, mocha, black olive and roasted fruits. The palate is lively and ripe, with pointed tannins and red-fruit flavors with black edges and olive. A compact, solid mix of Cabernet, Carmenère and Syrah.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows a prickly side that’s true to the variety. Smells and tastes slightly salinic, but also shows good verve and mouthfeel. This is a lively style of SB with citrus and green-apple flavors. It finishes with edgy gooseberry and seems committed to the crisp, lean style (even from warmer Maule Valley).

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas of tobacco, molasses and damp moss suggest earthiness, yet the palate is piercing and high-wire, with bright, almost blinding acidity pushing cherry and red plum flavors. Kind of gritty on the finish, where the tannins and acids combine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral on the nose except for a smidgen of lychee and citrus. The palate is standard and generic, with bland peach, melon and pithy flavors. Finishes light and peachy, with weight and fading acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Honest, citrusy aromas are simple and nice, while the palate is spritzy, zesty and tastes mildly sweet but also correct with mango, lime, apple and orange flavors. Clean, fun and leaning toward sweet. A good value white to drink immediately.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dry and toasty on the nose, but tart, racy and raspy on the palate. The raspberry and cherry flavors are sharp and fall off to dry and lean as the wine progresses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A bit jumbled and certainly it goes heavy on the oak. But as things settle you’ll find buttery vanilla notes accenting relatively solid berry fruit. The end result is pretty good. Give it some air.

Palo Alto Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot - 2003

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Earthy and leathery initially, but airing reveals dark plum and violet-like aromas. The palate is sturdy and healthy, with nice acidity and tannins propelling ripe berry and cassis. The finish is fudgy and round, with vanilla shadings. Shows only the slightest hint of green tobacco at its core.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The nose displays some tree bark and sawmill, but underneath there’s savory spice alongside black fruit. The palate is ripe and deep, with berry essence and clove. Dark chocolate carries the finish, which is firmly tannic but not overly hard.
