The best effort in the Palouse lineup, the Dineen designate has a bit more going on than the rest—a mix of prunes and cherry candy, falling off into a light finish with cocoa and baking spices.

Light but still fleshy fruit flavors suggest strawberry, cotton candy and a little sweet watermelon. Acids are slightly chalky and the tannins are still not entirely assimilated. The finish carries on with some persistent cassis/black plum fruit flavor, unadorned but crisply defined.

This does not have the stuffing to pull itself off as a pure varietal. There are suggestions of black cherry and cassis, but the herbal, even vegetal and stemmy tannins quickly take over and leave an earthy, rather harsh impression in the mouth.

From an old vine Yakima Valley vineyard, this Bordeaux blend shows both muscle and tenacity. The fruit is tightly coiled, with tart berry and currant set against leaf and herb. Tannins are full and carry a bit of green tea and herb in to the finish. Overall this is well made and balanced.

Dark, tight and tannic when tasted out of the barrel, the wine has not changed significantly with another year of bottle age. Barely ripe fruit is overtaken by streaks of anise and herb, followed up with barrel flavors of mocha and coffee grounds. The tannins are grainy and bring texture to the finish.
