Scented candle, green herbs, mushroom and anonymous white fruit aromas lead to a cidery, fairly thin palate of melony flavors. Finishes plump but slightly pickled. Not bad for $7.

There are many worse wines out there than this semisweet Pinot Grigio from warm-climate San Juan Province in Argentina. Definitely part of the new breed, the label is catchy and the price is right. Inside the bottle, the wine is perfectly decent and shows green banana and other tropical fruit flavors. A little cloying, so serve well chilled. Imported by Five Gold Hands.
