An impressive debut for this flagship wine from Ventiquero’s portion of the Apalta vineyards. Australian John Duval consults (ex-Penfolds), and his influence is reflected in the careful tannin management and smooth texture. Opens with considerable coffee and toast from the oak, but also shows blackberry and boysenberry fruit balanced by crisp acidity. Seems to have the basic ingredients, just lacks a bit of richness and length.
