Here’s a well-priced Cerasuolo di Vittoria (a blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato) with pretty luminosity and bursting aromas of spice, blueberry, raspberry and shaved almond. Manene represents a traditional expression of the wine with soft tannins and warm alcohol.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Light in color and density, Frappato should be consumed slightly chilled with cold cuts or salads. This is a successful and well-priced expression of the native Sicilian variety that offers small berry aromas with background tones of pistachio, marzipan and cherry liqueur.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dried red apple and loads of exotic spice, such as cardamom and North African curry, steal the show and leave only small traces of fresh fruit behind. Overall, the wine is thin and slightly sour in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Frappato (a red grape) is vinified here as a white wine in a courageous, alas not very successful, attempt at creating something new. The Sicilian variety has a naturally light consistency, but despite its amber-tinted color, the wine delivers contrasting aromas of white cherry, blueberry and raspberry. It tastes neutral and lacks definition overall.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This rosé opens with a pretty shade of pink and offers aromas of forest berry, cherry, herbs and a touch of ash or white mineral. There’s firm, crisp acidity that really keeps the palate refreshed. Shows loads of cheer and brightness in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Manene is a very attractive Cerasuolo di Vittoria (a blend of Nero d’Avola and Frappato) with loads of blueberry and wild berry followed by almond, cola and spice. It tastes light, crisp and tonic and would pair with lightly fried sardines or calamari.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A nice improvement since the last vintage tasted, Violino (a pure expression of Nero d’Avola vinified in stainless steel) offers easy aromas of wild berry, bramble and forest floor. There’s a green, spicy element to the nose that is offset by the ripeness of the fruit.

Frappato is a light and fruit-forward Sicilian grape that makes a crisp and refreshing red wine that is often served slightly chilled with pasta or fish. Paolo Calì shows deep expertise with the variety and offers an extremely food-friendly expression with bright berry nuances.
