Savatiano is one of the most cultivated white grape varieties of Greece, often serving as the base for retsina. But this effort shows how good it can be, melding slightly nutty scents with peachy, melony fruit. It’s plump and medium weight, finishing fresh and clean with a squirt of grapefruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
One of the two most commercially important red grapes grown in Greece, Agiorgitiko is a light, lively variety that does especially well in the Pelopponese, where Papagiannakos is located. This wine exhibits a nose of playful spice and appetizing flavors of red berry and black currant. Mellow and balanced, it will pair well with heartier meat dishes as well as tomato-based pastas and poultry.

Savatiano is often used in retsina, a traditional Greek wine made with pine resin, but can also make fine table wine, such as this. A pithy, peachy nose leads to a dry, oily, medium-bodied wine with good acidity and flavors of peach, mineral and flowers.
