A lusty wine, rustic and mouth-filling. It’s very ripe, showing berry and cherry flavors that veer into currants and raisins, but the finish is dry. With big, firm tannins and a peppery taste, this Zinfandel will be good with barbecue.

The grapes are from one of the warmer parts of the valley, and the wine is sweet and ripe in tangerine, apricot and vanilla flavors. Crisp acidity provides fortunate balance to this likeable young wine.

Lemons, limes, spearmint and green melon flavors, tart and fresh with acidity. A clean, vibrant and assertive wine, dry and bitter. Nice by itself or with seared halibut topped with fruity salsa.

Nicely ripe, smooth, textbook Russian River Pinot. It rewards for its silky texture and ripe cherry-pie filling, chocolate and spice flavors, balanced with good acidity. Not a complicated ager, it’s fine now and for a couple years.

Odd aromas mark this unbalanced wine, as do musty, grapefruit-juice flavors and sour finish. It’s just barely drinkable.

Fairly heavy nose of pinapple and buttered pears. There is some fruit but it is overwhelmed by the oak. The mouthfeel is slippery and it finishes weakly.

A little disjointed, with pretty, ripe, berry fruit. Yet there are sharp green aromas, and a certain stubbornly tannic, green streak in the mouth. Could use more concentration, depth and finesse, especially at this price.

Here’s an atypical wine for this variety. It has grapefruit aromas with a hint of banana and chocolate, and a pronounced tingle or sparkle. Bone dry and refreshing. Purists will object, but others will like it.
