Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark, somewhat heavy and quite ripe, a wine with a multitude of intense flavors that range from sweet cherries to blackberry pie and Kahlua. There’s even a note of blueberries floating in the firm tannins. Finishes dry, with astringency, suggesting aging for a year or so.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts off with a disturbing aroma of pickled dill and canned asparagus that makes it hard to enjoy the wine once you taste. There are some polished cherry and berry flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The model was the Northern Rhône, with its opening blast of white pepper and complex mélange of plummy currants and smoky leather. In the mouth, this wine is dense and full-bodied, dry, fairly tannic, and very rich. On the finish, the currants powerfully return, coating the palate for a long time. A very good and interesting wine.

Parsonage Village Syrah - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts with a sharp, raw scent that gradually airs to reveal layers of currants, cherries and plums. Drinks rather sharp in acidity and tough, too, but there’s a pretty wine in there. Definitely decant this wine in the morning to give it plenty of time to breathe.

Parsonage Village Syrah - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very dry and sharp in the finish, this Syrah has red currant and bitter cherry skin flavors, relieved by softer, richer oak influences. It’s tough, but softens in the glass. Really needs a good steak.

Parsonage Village Syrah - 2004

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full-bodied and dry, with a rich vein of currants, leather, tobacco and dark chocolate that finishes in a swirl of dry, hard tannins. Shows some bitterness throughout, and probably not an ager.

Parsonage Village Syrah - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of forward blackberries, cherries, currants and mocha in this ripe wine. It’s a bit rustic in the softness and simple structure, though.

Parsonage Village Cabernet Sauvignon - 2005

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a burnt taste to this wine that could be a result of sun-burnt fruit or overly-charred, obviously toasted oak, or both. At any rate, although the black currant and mocha flavors are pleasant, the wine feels harsh in the mouth.
