This expression of Barolo from the Bussia cru opens with fleshy pulp, rich concentration and very intense aromas of cola, cherry, humus, licorice and grated ginger. There’s a chunky, vinous quality and although the wine lacks the finesse of the vintage, it will most certainly evolve nicely over the years.

Rich black-purple color. Big welcoming aromas of black cherry, cassis and herbs. Candied fruit, but in an appealing way. Very good creamy mouthfeel. Dry cherry and cocoa flavors. Handsome dusty tannins on the long finish.

Unabashedly modern in style, with layers of menthol and toast surrounding immense depths of dark fruit. Plum, black cherries and tar fill the mouth with a texture that’s simultaneously rich and supple, silken yet velvety. Picks up more oak-induced notes of maple syrup and coffee on the finish.

Here is a bright and modern Barbera d’Alba with succulent fruit tones followed by chocolate and exotic spice. The wine is soft and plush (it hardly seems like a Barbera if you consider more traditional expressions of this native grape) and would pair with a long list of rich, hearty foods.

Le Coste Mosconi delivers a very attractive ensemble of ripe fruit aromas with oak-driven shadings of vanilla, cinnamon and clove. No single aroma is over the top and the wine is indeed nicely integrated and balanced. The tannins are drying and tight, creating a firm impression on the close.

You don’t come across too much Sauvignon Blanc from Piedmont, and this older example is mid-tier. The nose is smoky from oak aging, while the palate is primed with meaty, herbal flavors. An uncommon take on the grape that purists may not like. If you’re experimental, it could work. Imported by Montecastelli Selections.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Barolo from the Bussia cru offers pretty oak renderings of spice, cinnamon, vanilla and mesquite smoke backed by sweet cherry, raspberry and cola. The tannins are tight and still bitter, which means they need another five years or so of cellar aging.

Barolo Le Coste Mosconi from Monforte d’Alba offers delicate aromas of dried flowers and lavender with bright cherry and wild berries at the back. The mouthfeel is plush and generous with a very fine texture and a smooth, velvety feel.
