Gold in color with aromatic intensity. Trouble is, the wine is heavy and dull. Simply put, the watery melon and citrus flavors just don’t cut it as far as high-end Loire whites go. Imported by Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd.

Grassy up front, with grapefruit, sour apple and sucking-candy aromas. Very simple, with peach and melon flavors. Not harsh in any way, but innocuous and soft. Imported by Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd.

Exceedingly pungent, with piercing aromas of cat pee and prickly pear cactus. Comes across a touch acidic and lean, with flavors of dry tangerine peel and green apple. Yet with all that noted it still seems pulpy and fat on the palate. Not bad but not great. Imported by Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd.

Sharp and smoky at first, but cleaner and more open if given time. Light apple and peach flavors mix with citrus, while the finish is simple, clean and touched by white pepper. This one sports just enough power and heft to handle the acidity, which is sharp. Imported by Frederick Wildman and Sons, Ltd.

Honey, orange blossom and a little mustard make up the nose of this classic Loire Valley SB. Tangerine and bitter greens play a duet on the palate, and the finish is more or less a reduced version of those primary flavors. The overall impression is one of a simple, tight, easy-to-drink wine.

Pungent aromas of field greens and citrus lead into a palate defined by racy lime, grapefruit and passion fruit. The finish is a bit watery, which is a disappointing drop off from the solid citrus flavors present on the front palate. Overall it’s a nice wine, nothing more, nothing less.

Among the range of Jolivet's 2000 Sancerres, Les Cailottes is the winner, hands down. It's zesty, with chalk and mineral qualities. The nose is clean, stony and pungent, while the flavors that come next are pure and ripe citrus and melon, with just a nip of honey. It closes out firm, round and full, and with elegance.

Aromas of spiced apples, lemon, mustard seed and mineral make for an attractive nose, but the palate is a tad tart, featuring mostly lemon, green apple and citrus rind. In general, it’s light, lean and probably better as an aperitif than as an accompaniment to fine food.

Mustard-seed aromas pierce the nose, which otherwise is mostly apple and pineapple. Lemon, green apple and passion fruit flavors are accented by the lightest touch of oregano and basil. For a cru, it’s rather simple, with extremely light fruit on the finish and very little length or substance to the back end.

The wine is full-bodied, with hints of smoke, and with a deliciously fresh, crisp apple aftertaste. It is powerful and rich while not losing any elegance.
