This is really a lovely Zin. It has the weight, tannic structure and complexity of a fine Napa Cabernet, but the flavors are all Zinfandel. They include black pepper, red and black cherries and raspberries, currants, sweet tobacco, gingerbread and smoky oak influences.

A terrific Cabernet that shows vast improvement over the winery’s earlier efforts. In fact, you could place it next to far more expensive Napa bottlings. It’s dry and elegantly tannic and complex, showing blackberry, currant, violet, herb and cedar flavors that bring to mind a fine Bordeaux. Drink now with upscale fare.

Shows a lot of finesse for a Chard at this price, meaning there’s a combination of balance and elegance that this wine has in spades. That makes the pear, peach and buttercream flavors all the better to taste.

A beautiful Chardonnay notable for its food-friendliness. Strikes a firm path toward dryness and minerality, with suggestions of citrus, peach and vanilla. The racy acidity is wonderful. Defines elegance in Chardonnay, at a good price.

A very dry, acidic, rather severe Pinot Noir, made in a tighter, leaner style than most. If you find California Pinot too fruity, you’ll like the streamlined raspberry, pepper and mineral flavors.

A very ripe, rather high alcohol blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah and Grenache that’s superrich in fruit, but lacks some elegance and finesse. Flatters the palate with flavors of blackberry and cherry pie filling, cassis, chocolate, anise and pepper. Probably not an ager, so drink with a nice grilled pork chop.

Tastes sweet, with spearmint chewing gum and pineapple jam flavors, but the acidity is refreshingly high and cleansing. If you like your whites with a sugared edge, this is a good investment.

Dolan continues to produce stellar whites and reds from organically grown grapes in Mendocino County. This Chardonnay is ripe and full of minerality, a liquid form of crisp apple with vanilla on the finish.
