Big, baked and round on the nose, with leather and sweet blackberry aromas. Put it on the scale and it’ll weigh in as heavy. The flavors are dark and cooked as it centers on black plum and blackberry. Short on finesse but long on size, with coffee and chocolate on the finish. Drink now before it turns even softer.

Light aromas suggest butterscotch and baked apple, and indeed this is a soft SB with creamy, plump flavors of peach, melon and sugar. Sweet on the finish, and then it falls off the cliff before winding up a little mealy and bitter.

Deep and earthy, as the nose exhibits touches of warm dirt, stewed meat, fresh tomato and dark fruit. The palate is livelier than the bouquet, with cherry, cassis and other forward fruit flavors. Finishes smooth, with sweeping tannins. Very good overall; high in quality.

There’s a movement in Chile toward the Limari Valley for cooler-climate grapes like Sauvignon Blanc, yet this one hasn’t really found its groove. The wine seems a bit soft and distant, with dilute aromas and flavors of peach, melon and apple. Yet the body is moderate to heavy, and the finish is sort of mealy.

Begins with roasted, smoky aromas that morph straight to deep black fruit. Cassis and black cherry form a solid flavor core, and there’s plenty of tannin and toast on the finish. Very solid and one of the best efforts yet from this label. Imported by Global Vineyard Importers.

This is a real heavyweight. At 15.4% alcohol it tastes and smells like Port, and it has a flat and chewy palate of raisin, baked black fruit and licorice candy. Basically, there’s just no edge or balance to this mammoth, overripe fruit ball.

Rock-solid Maipo Cabernet. Meaty aromas along with dark fruit and mushroom grace the nose, which is classic Chilean in every way. The palate is forward and balanced, with requisite plum, cassis and raspberry flavors. Simply put, this is tasty, composed and just gritty enough. Drink now into 2009.

How dry this wine is, and how tart! It has strong acids that frame lime and gooseberry flavors, and is very clean. Turns peppery-spicy on the finish. Good value in a refreshing cocktail or garden party wine.

Light and mostly fresh, with shy peach and green-fruit aromas. The palate is soft and reticent, with lower-level acids and chunky melon and papaya flavors. Finishes pithy and thus mildly bitter. Drink soon or wait for the 2008.

Full and concentrated but also a little flat and pruney. This wine pushes ripeness to the max level, and the result is a heavy, tannic Cab with a lot of power and flavors of prune, chocolate, molasses and fig. Thick and chunky on the finish, too. Soft and dense enough to drink now through 2011.
