Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Nobody is trying harder to master Cab Franc, and this noble wine continues Peju’s streak. It’s voluptuously soft, but not too soft, with enough acidity and tannins for structure. Meanwhile, the flavors are a wonder. Black currants, red and black cherries, white chocolate, sweet vanilla and an edge of smoky char, to name a few. Drink now.

There’s so much to like here, from the citrus, fig and melon flavors to the bright acidity and rich creaminess, but the stubborn cat pee aromas are a problem for this reviewer.

The reds give the cherry-berry fruit, the dusty tannins and, obviously, the darkish color. Colombard contributes a fresh, grapy tartness. A simple, dry, easy-drinking rosé.

This isn’t really dry, as it finishes almost as sweet as a dessert wine. Good with fruit salad or as a summery apéritif.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts with earthy, modest berry and chocolate aromas, then turns into a rather common sip. The berry flavors are okay but don’t knock you out, and the acidity is much too soft.

Wonderful flavors in this dry Syrah, ranging from blackberries and cherries through cola to dried herbs and anise. The tannins are gentle. The big problem is excessive softness, which mars the wine’s structural integrity. Ready now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very soft, and a little hot in alcohol, with blackberry, cassis and dark chocolate flavors that finish dry. Tastes Porty on the finish. With 90% new oak, it’s a densely layered wine that could improve with time in the bottle.

A lovely, polished young Cab, notable for elegance and classic structure. Firm but silky tannins frame flavors of red cherries, cola, herbs and cedar. The vineyard is on the Rutherford bench. Now through 2011.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very nice, classically structured Cab Franc that you can substitute for Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s a dry, soft and rich wine, with slightly herbal flavors of cherries, orange tea and cedar. Polished and elegant.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Raw and harsh, and even though there’s some good blackberry and cherry fruit, not to mention toasty oak, the tannins come across as astringent and minty-green. Not going anywhere, so drink now.
