Sharp and green, with an unripe minty note, but at the same time, the wine is too sweet. Rescued from oblivion by some nice cherry flavor.

Another great value from this dependable brand. It’s rich in ripe black currant, cherry and cocoa flavors, with smooth, sturdy tannins.

Lots to like in this Syrah with plummy blackberry, cola, dark chocolate and coffee flavors. It has the sharply acidic jamminess of a youthful wine.

Here’s a good buy in a nice, dry, crisp young Sauvignon Blanc. It has subtle green grass, citrus and vanilla flavors, and finishes clean and zesty.

Pepperwood’s first foray into Chilean Pinot Noir leaves a bit to be desired, even at $7. The nose is mulchy and candied, while the palate is clumsy, with candied berry, cocoa powder, vanilla and other sweet flavors.

This is ripe enough, but tastes too sugary sweet, and has a raw, unfinished edge.

If you like superfruity Viogniers, you’ll love this blast of peaches, papayas, passion fruit, white pepper and vanilla. It’s clean, simple and refreshing.

If you need a full-bodied red that’s clean and inexpensive, this is a good bet. It’s a rustic wine, but dry, with fruity charm and a good bite of tannins to cut through a Philly cheese steak.

This polished negociant’s wine illustrates the art of blending. It’s a fine Chardonnay, crisp and dry, with flavors of pineapples, peaches and cream, vanilla and buttered toast. Great price for the quality.

So rich in flavor, it’s like an orchard meets a candy store. Plums, blackberries, cherries, chocolate, herbs and spices swim in a richly tannic, dry and balanced wine. Will go with lots of fare, but try with lamb and rosemary.
