This offers a lot, maybe too much, of everything—supermature pruney fruit, tons of smoky oak and a jammy mouthfeel. It’s fat, and closes long with dense fruit and black pepper accents. It’s also over the top—overripe, highly extracted, densely wooded; if you love that style, you’ll enjoy this much more than our tasters did. This has potential as a Port, though, consumed at the end of a meal with cheeses and nuts.

This attractive wine opens with a nicely nuanced bouquet of berry, spice and earth accented by positive gamy and slightly barnyardy notes. The textured palate offers attractive dark fruit and a touch of tar and licorice. Ends with an even, dry, long finish of pepper, earth and leather.

Plum and kirsch aromas are offset by toast and coffee. Lots more plum, cedar, coffee and chocolate in the mouth. Tobacco and spice grace the finish of this well crafted, balanced and elegant wine. It’s one that just feels and tastes right.
