Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an enormously fruity Zinfandel that offers a flood of flavor, making it instantly likeable. Dry, full-bodied and tannic, it’s powerful in briary blackberries, cherries, currants, cola, anise, pepper and cinnamon, with an edge of sweet, smoky oak and cocoa. Should develop over the next 6–8 years.

This is a big, strong, exuberant Zindandel that shows Dry Creek’s briary, brambly personality at its best. It’s a dry, full-bodied, tannic wine, with flavors of blackberries, cherries and currants. Black pepper, star anise and cinnamon provide the exotic spices. It’s quite a good, rich Zinfandel at a very good price.

Here’s a young Cabernet with lots going for it, in the melange of berry and earth flavors and nice structure. Tannins are firm and fine, and the overlay of smoky oak fits like a glove. Pleasant now, but those tannins suggest rich, well-marbled meat.

An intense wine, with cassis flavors wrapped in rich tannins and oak. Smooth and velvety, but turns bitter and simple on the finish, with an herbal, coffee note. —S.H.

Ripe and crisp, with jammy pineapple, lemongrass, white pepper and vanilla flavors. The acidity is a delight, but the wine could be a little drier.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark gold in color, this very sweet dessert wine has intense flavors of apricot nectar, pineapple-infused crème brûlée, vanilla frosting and butterscotch. It’s rich, but balanced with a squeeze of lime acidity.

Starts out sulfury, and it’s stubborn to blow off. Underneath is a softly sweet wine with jammy blackberry and coffee flavors that veer into raisiny Port.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Firm, ripe and fruity, with a nice mix of plums, berries and earth. The mountain fruit shows good acids, some mineral elements, and a long, complex finish with a fair amount of earth and barnyard. A distinctive, earthy style.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From this well-regarded Sonoma County appellation, a ripely fruity wine, brimming with plum, blackberry, tobacco and spice aromas and flavors. It’s rich, but balanced by finely intricate tannins and very nice acids. There’s a harmony and balance that make it fun to drink.
