There’s a lot of action in the glass in the form of contrasting aromas and flavors: Chocolate, caramel, carob pod, balsamic sauce and Porcini mushroom offset cherry and berry candy. Some notes are slightly off key but the wine delivers good consistency and persistency on the palate.

Forest floor, bramble, red earth, plum, black fruit, mineral, leather, tobacco and cherry preserves: This Chianti Riserva delivers the whole gamut of aromatic possibilities. The intensity and purity of these aromas is good and the wine has tight, plush feel in the mouth.

Piccini’s Brunello Villa al Cortile is an interesting wine with its own unique personality. It offers distinct aromas of mesquite, cedar and pine forest followed by rounder tones of plum and rum cake. The more immediate approach means it’s almost ready to drink now.

Bright, clean and linear with pretty accents of spice, blackberry, leather and lingering tobacco, Villa al Cortile Riserva is the kind of wine you’ll want to pair with a hearty meat dinner. The wine shows velvety, soft texture in the mouth.

The nose of this wine is richly redolent of jasmine, honey and peach and the overall effect is very floral indeed. This Malvasia-Chardonnay blend is lean and flavorful in the mouth.

Light and pleasing with mild chalk and anise accents on the cherry fruit, the superiore is slightly more elegant than Piccini's normale. It again reflects the house preference for wines made 100% of Sangiovese with good acidity and balance as opposed to blending, extraction and weight. Finishes with modest length and slightly peppery tannins.

This easy-drinking Chianti is a perfect pizza-and-pasta red with bright, dry, red-cherry fruit and just a hint of chalk on the palate. Tangy but not sharp tannins and judicious use of oak make this forward, flavorful, agreeably priced wine a winner.
