Past vintages of La Rocca have demonstrated Soave’s potential for cellar aging, and this beautiful expression from the excellent 2009 vintage also shows a bright future ahead. The wine is redolent of yellow roses and stone fruit and offers a playfully spicy note at the end.

Pieropan’s basic Soave Classico offers refreshing aromas of stone fruit, honeysuckle, grapefruit and lime. The wine is light and crisp with tonic acidity on the close and an easy, direct approach.

Calvarino is another gorgeous expression of Soave Classico from producer Pieropan, widely considered a quality leader in the area. There are deep layers here of flavor and aromas that include peach, nectarine, almond and thick honey. It has good density and persistency in the mouth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pieropan’s La Rocca is one of the most celebrated wines to be produced in the Soave Classico zone. This expression benefits from thicker extraction and deeper complexity, resulting in a sophisticated northern Italian white. Pair it with Thai or vegetarian Indian dishes.

Beautiful and luminous, this amber-colored Recioto di Soave is generous and opulent. Its many aromatic layers include apricot, honey, toasted almond and butterscotch. It has rich sweetness and enough tingling acidity to tickle your tongue and keep the palate refreshed.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The product of low yields and barrel fermentation and aging, this single-vineyard wine will change the way you think about Soave. Apples, tropical fruits, apricots and vanilla abound, all offset by a firm mineral element. This balanced wine has zesty acidity—the long and complex finish will amaze you. To boot, the wine has a track record of aging well for six or more years.

Another fine effort from this house, which has proven its consistency from one year to the next. It offers a lovely, clean, apple-like nose, crisp acidity, perfect balance, a medium body and a long apple-and-peach close.

Not your grandmother’s Soave, this is fully loaded, from its charming, fresh aromas of peaches and orange blossoms to its plump, fleshy flavors of stone fruits. And it’s all backed by bracing acidity that keeps the ripe flavors lively right through the long, minerally finish. Editors’ Choice.

This beautiful Soave Classico (which is aged on the lees for a creamier, fuller style) delivers gorgeous density and persistency. The intensity the wine shows in the mouth is matched by fragrant notes of yellow rose, stone fruit and white almond.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pieropan’s base Soave is not labeled “Classico” only because the wine is packaged in a screw cap bottle. You’ll love the fresh notes here of chopped sage, citrus, pear and spring flower. Fifteen percent Trebbiano di Soave is added to the blend.
