Here’s a Cab that makes a play for supremecy in a very crowded field. The wine, which contains a drop of Merlot, is solidly in the modern, international, Napa cult style. Soft and appealing for its blackberry, currant, plum and vanilla oak flavors, it’s drinkable now, but such are the tannins that it will be better after 2008.

Very intense nose, focused aromas of black cherries and blackberries, smoky, elements of green herbs, leather, very extracted and dense; very sweet and compressed in the front of the mouth with a strong shot of alcohol; chocolate and caramel; jammy but a bit rough in the follow-through; good effort, but not among the top tier. (17.5/20)
