Rich, creamy and enticing, the wine serves up a classy blend of fine-tuned toast nuance and appealing pear, apple, melon, grapefruit, lemon, herb and honey-like notes. Long and lush at the end.

Tastes kind of soft and thick in jammy cherry and blackberry flavors, with low acidity and some keen tannins that turn astringent on the finish. It’s showing its rusticity and is not likely to improve.

Huge, just tremendous and authoritative. Aged in new, high-toast oak for 17 months, it bursts with smoky char and caramelized vanilla, while the underlying fruit explodes with spicy plum, wild blackberry marmalade and chocolate. The tannins are very strong, but ripely sweet and finely meshed. A guaranteed cellar candidate, it should slowly improve for a decade, and last another decade beyond that.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a blend of grapes from Carneros, Rutherford, Oakville and Stags Leap. One thing it offers is fruit. Red and black cherries and blackberries, to be exact, on the jammy side, with a spicy lift of new oak. It’s not a complex ager, but it does show real white-tablecloth fanciness.

The winery does not give us exact new oak statistics, but oak dominates the aroma and flavor of this Cab. Beyond the caramel, smoke and toasty vanilla meringue, the blackberry and currant flavors are a little thin.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The concept is interesting: Create an imaginative blend of Tannat, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet. The wine, however, has major problems. It opens with a sweaty, cheesy smell, then turns harshly tannic. Not going anywhere.

This wine opens with woody, earthy, bacony aromas and turns oddly sweet in the mouth, like cherry cough medicine. It’s not bad, just odd.

If you get off on aging your Cabs, this is more than an even bet. In fact, it’s a sure thing, with its rich, thick tannins that shut things down now. But deep down inside is a massive core of sweet blackberry that captures the fabulous sun of this historic vintage. Best from 2010 and beyond.

Displays a nice balance of ripe cassis fruit and earthy green olives, with rich oak. It’s a voluptuous wine, dry and balanced, but probably not an ager. The pairing opportunities are endless.
