Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A friendly and approachable Brunello with all its elements tucked neatly into place, Pinino offers ripe aromas of black fruit and toast. This wine is less complex, compared to past vintages, and would make a good companion to hearty pasta and roasted meats. The estate’s long history spans back to 1874.

Here’s another wonderful Brunello from Montalcino. This wine offers intensity and purity of aromas along with loads of cherry, vanilla and spice. There’s elegance and harmony here and the wine is not overdone or exaggerated. In fact, the overall effect is that of sophistication and drinkability.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a raw, succulent element here that is reinforced by aromas of cherry and blackberry. This wine is distinguished by an intensely floral bouquet with notes of violets, lavender, incense and perfume. It’s bright and tannic at this point, so give this wine a few more years of cellar aging.

Cupio offers sharp aromas of bramble and spice backed by softer aromas of plum, prune and vanilla bean. The fresh acidity really keeps the palate polished and this wine would pair with cheesy pasta or buttery dishes.

Clandestino is an oak-influenced Rosso di Montalcino with bright aromas of cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate that intermingle with cherry, blackberry and cassis syrup. Pair this wine with pork or poultry.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Call it personality, this Brunello stands apart from the rest. Standard coffee and fudge are offset by tangy red berry, apple, candy cherry cough drop, putty and what one panelist pinned down as roasted artichoke. A crisp close to a full, soft round wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This hearty Brunello performs very well on the nose thanks to its complex medley of black fruit, liquid smoke and black mineral. It follows through on the palate with a thinner texture than you’d expect considering the wine’s enormous aromatic density, and ends with a blast of tart fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Clandestino is a seductively ripe and full expression of Brunello and it successfully carries that depth and density to the back corners of the palate. It delivers bold flavors of cherry and liquid smoke that are lavished over tightly textured tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This textbook Brunello boasts a careful balance of elements. Sweet cherry and vanilla aromas segue to austere notes of exotic spice, cola and waxed leather. This is a tempered but elegant wine that would match savory duck with wild rice.
