Explosive aromatics are frankly a touch over the top, bursting with cherry, leather and touches of cedar, vanilla, coffee and maple syrup. It’s very rich, big and bulky on the palate; gangly in its youth, it may settle down with some time in the bottle, but for now it’s fruity and unformed. Try after 2009.

Here’s a modern, round and velvety Barolo (from Monforte d’Alba) that will appeal to those who love a thick and juicy style of wine. The aromas include lavender, allspice, cinnamon, white chocolate and vanilla. Tart berry flavors backed by crisp acidity and firm tannins give the mouthfeel determination and grit.

This young Barolo offers a distinctive nose enhanced by fresh herbal notes and loads of pretty mineral tones that follow black fruit and forest berry. There are subtle shadings of sweet vanilla, powdered licorice and cinnamon as well and the wine offers soft, yielding tannins and a drying note of graphite or black stone on the close.

Youthful and bright now, this elegant wine will surely benefit from five to ten more years of cellar aging. At this point, the wine is very focused on oak-driven aromas of spice, cedar, chocolate, old leather and toasted nut but the quality of the fruit comes through. Drink with succulent red meats.

Corsini is a thickly extracted and velvety Barolo that opens with a deep dark color and confident aromas of Indian spice, cigar box, leather, blackberry, maraschino cherry and plum. The solid but astringent mouthfeel reveals that this wine still needs more time to age.

Ripe berry and mature fruit aromas of prune and candied cherry open the bouquet of this lovely, garnet-colored Barolo. The wine offers excellent intensity and depth with what can best be described as a lively mouthfeel. Indeed, this wine exudes life, health and brightness.
