Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Asinone is a beautiful expression of Prugnolo Gentile that boasts bright accents of spice, mature fruit, black mineral and light barbecue smoke. It is elegant, tight and would make an excellent pairing partner to meat, pasta or risotto.

You’ll love the rich concentration and density of this wine. The nose is finely focused on aromas of black fruit, moist tobacco and black pepper. In the mouth, this Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend delivers firm, drying tannins and a long burst of black fruit on the finish. Drink after 2012.

In Violas is an oak-driven expression of Merlot from Cortona in Tuscany with dark concentration, ripe berry aromas and loads of spice, toasted nut, tobacco and leather. The wine still shows some bitterness on the tannins that will soften with more time in the bottle. It ends with almond-like flavors.

Cherry fruit and vanilla are the main themes of this saturated, ruby-colored Vino Nobile. There are distant tones of natural rubber, caramel and nutmeg, but they are really just afterthoughts that add interesting highlights overall. The wine has soft cherry fruit and offers more meat and pulp in the mouth that help drive its long finish. The estate is managed by the charismatic Federico Carletti, who is in the process of opening a wine tourism center.

Rosso di Montepulciano (in this case Sangiovese is blended with 20% Merlot and aged in oak barrique) is a great wine to serve with pasta or easy meat dishes. The wine’s natural acidity cuts through the fat in those dishes and leaves loads of wild berry on the fade.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a beautifully fragrant Vino Nobile di Montepulciano with well-integrated oak aromas of spice and cigar box followed by blackberry and chocolate. This is a proud, modern wine with loads of intensity and personality. Pair it with lamb or pork roast.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This little brother to vino Nobile embodies the essence of ripe, lip-smacking country wine. But it’s no piece of candy; quite the contrary, it’s full, rustic and fruit-forward. If elegance isn’t the game here, then the big plum flavor and meaty, berry-loaded finish is.

Open and friendly, this is the epitome of a newly released wine that should sell well in restaurants and fly off the shelves of wine shops. Not only will it go nicely with pasta or grilled meat, it’s properly balanced and solid on its own feet. Cherry is the predominant flavor, and on the finish there’s vanilla and tannins that won’t quit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a complex bruiser that will appeal to those willing to give it at least three years in the cellar; it’s that tight and young now. Oak is a big player on the nose and in the mouth, and the acids are very alive, so as a result some might find it aggressive (all the more reason to lay it down until 2006). There is plenty of earth and minerals throughout, and it’s tight as nails on the finish.

Poliziano consistently delivers smooth and rich expressions that show the best of Montepulciano. Aromas include black berry, cherry, smoked spice, leather and moist tobacco. Pair this wine with stewed veal.
