Elegant, with deep raspberry, cherry animal and wet earth. The attack is all fruit then followed by the earth, then back to the berry. A wonderful rollercoaster of a wine.

Powerful nose, lots of smoke and charcoal, sweet fruit, black cherry, floral and enticing; soft and sweet on the entry; good flavors of black cherry; perfumed and floral in the mouth; doesn’t fulfill its early promise though; a bit thin and dilute at the finish; good but not memorable. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Deep nose, loaded with black and red fruits, cherries, earth, smoke, spices, opulent aromas; richer and deeper than the Arvelets noted above; there is more texture and lushness in this wine; velvety and smooth, but with a ripeness and sweetness that is apparent from the beginning; still quite earthen and introspective, but with lots of reserves to call up as this wine ages. (18/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Spicy peppery nose with hints of chocolate, licorice, salt water taffy, and rubber bands and earth; sweet and fresh flavors, lots of fruit at first, but then quickly dominated with dry tannins; smoke, wooden flavors; a nice long finish with drying quince and agar laced textures. (17.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Big, deep nose, lots of black cherry aromas, touch of rubber and vinyl, earthen, smoky, assertive; big rich flavors, lots of black cherry fruits in the front of the mouth; still not ready; layers of tannins temp down the fullness of this wine now giving it a hard shell, but there is depth and flavor right underneath; I left it in the bottle overnight and the next day the remainder was filled with deep rich black fruits, much smoother, and ready for the big time. (17.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Big nose right from the start with aromas of smoked meat and earth, evolving in the glass to a more perfumed and floral series of scents, earthen and woody with ripe black cherry aromas, sweet and rich in the mouth, smooth textures in the front of the mouth, changing to more earthen and woody flavors as the wine expands in the mouth; tea leaves and a touch of tar with light citrus notes at the finish; more complex than I would have thought and nicely balanced. (17/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Dry-tinged, earthen nose that has lots of terroir showing, sweet black cherries, intense, herbal, but a bit hard; pretty much the same in the mouth, there is a good shot fresh black cherries in the first touch, but the fruit is trapped in a maze of dry, earthen, slightly dusty flavors; a bit hard and unripe at this time; this may evolve more given some time, as it tastes quite closed and tight now, and there is fruit here that is looking to come out. (16.5/20)

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Good if not exciting nose of sweet fruit, tea, tobacco, earth, and minerals, solid aromas of black cherries; initial taste is sweet with cherry flavors, but then the wine seems to diminish rather than gain; the later flavors lose the fruit, and the wine is lighter with a minerally citric flavor; not wholly unpleasant, but lacking in grace and charm; texture-wise, the wine has nice clean structure with a light, almost elegant nature, and I would be more excited if it had some sweetness to add palate appeal. (15.5/20)
