Concentrated, tannic and earthy, the reserve shows dense black cherry fruit, sweet plum, hints of leaf, forest floor and damp earth. Firm, tannic and substantial; give it plenty of breathing time.

Made entirely from Dijon clones of Chardonnay. Drinks rich and full-bodied, with leesy, buttery notes, and a distinct white peach flavor. Very fine and complex. An angular, austere wine by California standards, with bright acidity.

A new wine for Ponzi and Oregon—this is the first commercial Arneis out of the state, and it’s quite good (and smartly packaged in a thin clear bottle). Opens with crisp white peach and nectarine flavors, and a strong hint of buttery toast from some barrel aging. Almondy, creamy and elegant, with honey notes throughout.

Shows rich butter, lemon and mineral notes. Tastes rich and full-bodied. Has a real acid bite, which may soften in time. Not an unctuous, California-style fruit bomb; more a Chablis-like wine of structure.

Ponzi’s Tavola Pinot Noir does a great job of filling in the value end of the winery’s lineup. Luisa Ponzi consistently assembles a forward, spicy and appealing wine that drinks well upon release. The 2007 follows right on the heels of the excellent 2006, perhaps a bit lighter, but with tangy wild berry fruit and refreshing acids.

The color is a pretty, pale coppery salmon, the nose laden with fresh strawberries. Persistent on the palate, the wine displays pleasing details of peach, red apple and grapefruit, good length and an extremely clean, fresh finish.

Plum and pepper, berries and bark; ripe cherries and sharp spices give this lovely Pinot Noir more than its share of cascading flavors; it just keeps on surprising you with something new. Despite all the razzle dazzle, it’s a balanced wine whose ripe fruits roll gracefully into a finish loaded with creamy mocha.

Tawny gold in color, this wine’s flavors can only be described as autumnal. It’s a bit one dimensional – tart apple, tasting a bit like a hard cider, dusted with cinnamon and quite juicy. Definitely a wine for acid lovers, and a wine that will match up well to foods that need some acid to cut through. Despite one hundred percent malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact, the acids reign supreme.

Ripe peaches, mango and citrus jump from the glass; there’s no lack of lush fruit in this reserve. Oddly, despite barrel fermentation, the fruit completely overshadows any trace of oak. Juicy and ripe, with some slightly bitter citrus rind in the finish.
