Potomac Point's Richland Heritage Reserve combines three of the noble varieties of Bordeaux: Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, but the winery blends in Tannat as well. Merlot and Cab Franc give the wine its fruitiness while Tannat and Petit Verdot lend their more tannic qualities. Plum, leather, and toast dominate the palate. The nose reminds me of a right bank Bordeaux, but I'm not sure what appellation applies; maybe Superior. About 45 minutes of aeration will produce a smooth and balanced finish. This wine is down right good, though, and paired well with a roast beef and blue cheese on ciabata.

Abbinato is a red blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Touriga Nacional. Tastes like a Chianti. Light with soft tannins. Flavors of chocolate and butter with cherry and red fruit accents. It lacks the mineral accents of an Italian Chianti, but it should pair well with any tomato-based pasta dish, veal, or try rosemary grilled chicken. $17
