Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the first Port in six years that Prager declared a vintage, so you know they think highly of it. It’s pretty good, not great, but nicely sweet in blackberry and chocolate fudge flavors, with a good edge of acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
My reactions to the various 2004s in the Prager lineup were a bit mixed, and this bottling was no exception. It possesses a light mouthfeel that hints at oiliness appropriate to a smaragd designation, but the flavors seem a bit sour and slightly underripe, ranging from quince to gooseberry and finishing with a tart edge.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, bold Riesling with a long, crisp finish, Prager’s Achleiten Smaragd boasts stunning flavors of honey, apricot and stones. The bouquet isn’t too shabby, either, presenting hints of mineral oil, honey and fresh greens. A tour de force that will probably drink well until 2020. Imported by Vin Divino.

Simple and sweet, with flavors of sugared orange tea, golden apricot jam and toasted meringue. The sweetness level is high, but the concentration just isn’t there.

Honey-sweet and direct, with citrus jam, apricot essence, crème brûlée and vanilla cream flavors. Fine with white cookies, lemon chiffon pie, pineapple sorbet.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a rich, very sweet dessert wine that tastes like some botrytis hit the grapes. It has intense flavors of apricot jam, pineapple-infused crème brûlée and butter-vanilla cookie flavors that are decadently delicious.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smells invitingly white-Porty, with apricot, candied tangerine and caramelized vanilla aromas, but turns naked in fruity flavor, with only the barest suggestion of citrus. That leaves hot alcohol to stand on its own.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, this Port-style wine has very sweet flavors of blackberry jam, creme de cassis, tangerine zest and vanilla wafer candy. Bright, citrusy acidity provides needed balance. This is tawny Port, California-style, and a very nice, satisfying after-dinner sipper.

Enormously sweet, with sugared blackberry, currant and dark chocolate flavors that are frankly delicious. Nice as a nighttime winter apéritif, with some chocolaty confection and a roaring fire.
