Seems more bretty, gaseous and muddled than it should be. The nose is burnt and rustic, and to an extent so is the palate. Mouthfeel is quite good, and that’s a saving grace because overall there’s an earthy, leathery thing going on that doesn’t really mesh with the Argentine model of clean bold fruit, oak and not much else.

Quite stemmy and stalky, with a drawn, green edge to the bouquet. This wine tastes pickled and lean, with underdeveloped red-fruit flavors that border on vegetal but rest on green and lean. Preludio scored better several years ago; since 2003 each subsequent vintage has been weaker.

Granular aromas of berry, earth and tar precede a vivacious, rather deep palate of lumbering, chewy black-fruit flavors. It feels right, sits right, and tastes right while leaving chocolate and nutmeg on the finish. Fairly classy and definitely well made. Only 400 cases made.

This blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon is very woody, so much so that the nose offers mostly cinnamon and green lumber. The palate, however, is ultracreamy, with vanilla and milk chocolate running the show. Seems a bit sticky and oaky. Could use more uncut fruit. Imported by Epic Wines.

Whereas Preludio's Malbecs impressed, this Syrah is more of a murky, amorphous red wine that's neither here nor there. The nose is a touch lactic, while the palate is roasted and heavy, with a carob flavor making itself a bit too noticed.

A full-octane wine with notes of olive and berry on the bouquet. It runs bright in the mouth, with zippy cherry and cassis flavors. Later on you detect olive at the core, but that’s admirably covered by a blanket of fine oak. Good in its class.

Tough, rubbery aromas include notes of carob and leather. The palate has a decent, regular feel to it along with hot flavors of baked fruits and chocolate. Finishes mildly sweet, as if it was dosed with a teaspoon of brown sugar.

Rubber and cinnamon aromas along with sweet fruits and bubble gum make for an attractive, easy-to-get nose. Very ripe and saturated in the mouth, with blackberry and plum flavors. Not ultra complex, in fact it’s kind of monotone. But what’s here is easy to like and tasty. Imported by Epic Wines.

Rustic and bulky, but not without its merits. The bouquet begins with sweet maple syrup aromas that set the stage for cassis and black plum flavors. It’s a touch stewy and chocolaty, but the earthy tannins manage to add edge and teeth. Imported by Epic Wines.
