Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
When first poured, this Cabernet seems a bit stiff and awkward, but it soon blossoms into a lovely, harmonious wine, with massive fruit tending toward black cherry and dark plum. It should continue to improve for up to eight years in the bottle. Cellar Selection.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark, plush and elegant, this wine defines style. It’s fashionably dry and ripe, with blackcurrant flavors and low acids. Oak adds vanilla and sweet, woody tannins but does not overwhelm. It’s what consumers are looking for in an expensive California Cabernet. You could object that it’s generically good. It lacks a sense of ground, of individuality, but that’s tilting at windmills.

Nothing at all like Chianti. More like a dessert wine, sweet and soft, with cherry, chocolate and spice flavors. The tannins are pretty, but the wine ultimately is simple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This wine earns its high score by virtue of sheer richness. It’s enormous in blackberry, cassis, roasted meat, licorice, black pepper and smoky cedar flavors, and finishes dry and spicy. There’s a tannic toughness that resists the palate, and doesn’t seem likely to age out, so drink over the next few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It may sound strange, but this wine tastes like the liquid equivalent of a buttered toast bacon sandwich, spread with a little blackberry jam. However it sounds, it’s really delicious.

What power and drama have gone into this wonderful wine. Sheer Pomerol, with pencil shaving, black cherry, cedar, chocolate and gamy-meaty aromas and flavors, tinged with violets, and the most voluptuous mouthfeel. Sheer hedonism right through the long sweet finish.

Smells and tastes super-oaky, with dominating notes of vanilla, clove, dill and caramel. Although there’s a ton of cherry, chocolate and raspberry fruit, sweet vanilla and toast still is the main element. Maybe it’s going through a dumb phase and simply needs time. Try again after 2011.

Not quite up there with the great ’07. More like the ‘06, offering vast, ripe flavors that lack complexity. The pineapple, crème brûlée, apricot, nectarine and honeysuckle flavors taste almost dessert-sweet, accented by caramelized oak.

A lovely Cabernet Franc, one of the best on the market. Shows classic Pride Mountain characteristics of ripeness, balance and immediate drinkability, although it will take a few years in the cellar. Dry and full-bodied, it’s rich in black cherries, spices and oak, with firm tannins. Now–2013.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Unusually rich and concentrated for a Merlot. Shows classic structure, with firm, ripe tannins and good acidity, although the oak sticks out. A small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon adds a blackberry depth to the cherries and raspberries. Decant if you drink now, but better to cellar until mid-2010.
