The Senftenberg vineyard, which takes its name from the castle ruins above the village, is one of Kremstal’s most illustrious sites. Franz Proidl makes a classically ripe, intense Grüner Veltliner from his vines. It is well balanced, with fine, crisp acidity. Imported by Select Wines.

“Light but ripe” seems a great combination, and this wine fits that bill well. It has the richness, with apples and cream flavors, and a good layer of spice and caramel. But the freshness is pervasive, giving deliciously light flavors through the finish.

This is impressive, both from its richness and alcohol (the narrow Krems River Valley is an oven in summer) and from its pure fruit and balance. The texture is smooth, with apricot, white peach, caramel and pepper. It never loses a sense of freshness, the acidity floating over the rich fruit flavors.

A ripe, peppery wine, which has rich sweetness, but also a structured nature. It is fresh, but the alcohol is noticeable and takes away from the honeyed, dry botrytis character.

Astonishingly young. There is a freshness and lift to it that shows the impressive ageability of an eiswein. Clean honey and orange peel flavors blend well with the sweetness.

This is the lightest of the Grüners from Proidl, offering a refreshing burst of crisp acidity along with the freshest spice. There is a fine tang of lemon, to keep the whole wine as bright as possible.

A full, dominantly spicy wine, with ripe caramel and apples and freshness. It is a bright, lively wine, which keeps good weight and concentration.

Rich and smooth, the concentration from old vines giving powerful white fruit and spice flavors. The acidity is there, a thread through the whole wine, finishing with freshness.
