The Serpa Pimentel family’s estate is located on the south side of the Douro, in the hills leading to Lamego. This Port is a triumph for an estate better known for table wines. It is very pure, and flavored with dark red fruits, blackberry jelly and a touch of bitter chocolate. A solid, enjoyable wine.

Rounded, rich, and very drinkable now. It is so attractive because the tannins are muted and soft. The perfumes float above the sweet red fruits, and lightly jammy character.

A delicious, ripe, fruity wine showing how well this property has developed its Port skills since branching out from table wine production. It is generous, opulent, hearty, just missing structure, but with good approachability.

An impressive, finely balanced wine, which wears its ripe fruit, dark chocolate and sweet plum flavors easily and opulently. The tannins are rounded, never dominant.

At first taste, this could be a dry Port. Its texture and richness are definitely in the big, opulent end of the spectrum. It’s heady stuff, the black plums fruits almost sweet with flavors of jelly and raisins. Maybe too bold, but certainly a strong statement.

Perfumed fruit and aromas, a wine that has raisins and fruit cake flavors. There is an unfortunate strong edge of volatile acidity that gives bitterness.
