A finely poised wine from this appellation close to Lisbon. Made from the Arinto grape, it is delicate, but still has a creaminess almost like Chardonnay, from the wood aging and the lees stirring during and after fermentation. Imported by Signature Imports.

On its own, you might fault this wine for seeming a bit dull and woody. But with the right food pairing, preferably something fruity seasoned with cumin and cinnamon, this wine can sing. Butter and nut aromas take hold, while dry notes of clove, mace and cinnamon echo the food spices and a lemony tang comes through on the finish.

From the Setúbal Peninsula, this 100% Periquita is bright and cherry-laden. Soft and velvety in texture, yet with sufficient acidity to accompany food. Be forewarned: There are some nasty bottle stinks that warrant decanting prior to serving. Best Buy.
