Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is the second wine of the Rothschild-owned Quinta do Carmo. It is soft and supple with dry tannins and fresh, juicy fruit flavors. The tannins suggest it could age, but it is not a complex wine and is good to drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A fine, elegant blend which shows restrained leather and herbal aromas and flavors of wood. This estate wine from the Rothschild-owned property is soft, with a layer of dark black cherries and prominent acidity. It should age over 4-5 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Spicy, smoky aromas give a French gloss to this first vintage of a reserve wine from the Rothschild owned estate. It is by far the most satisfying wine from Quinta do Carmo, showing good balance to go with the red fruits and sweet tannins. It should age well over the next 4-5 years.

Superripe, with sweet black fruit, and ripe, soft tannins. The structure is here, but the acidity seems to have missed out with such richly ripe black fig flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ripe fruit, good, even high acidity, a touch of wood: everything is here, except for the nagging edge of rusticity that often pervades the Carmo estate wine. It needs more polish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wine that seems weighed down by its own structure. It is all solid tannins, darkness, the fruit not really able to express itself. Powerful and concentrated, this needs more time to develop, although the direction of the wine is still problematic.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The most satisfying of recent offerings from this Lafite-managed estate. It is certainly tough and young, but with its great black berry fruits and ripe plum flavors, it also shows elegant tannins and balanced acidity. Excellent aging potential.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This blend of four red grapes, none of which is Cabernet or Merlot, strives for a Bordeaux-like style, but only half achieves that goal. It has the right weight and body, but it lacks clarity of flavor and punch. The nose is smoky, with burnt-rubber notes. There’s moderate cherry fruit at the core. The finish is long and amply smooth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This property, close to Estremoz, is run by the Rothschilds of Château Lafite in Bordeaux. They have gone for Bordeaux elegance, with dark purple fruitsmingled with some stalky dry tannins. But some of the richness and softness of the Alentejo has been lost. —R.V.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The second wine of Quinta do Carmo is dominated by earthy, meaty aromas. While the fruit has some richness and solid fruit, it is also dry, with awkward, earthy tannins. —R.V.
