Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The aromas show great complexity, blending hints of forest underbrush and game with spicy cranberry and chocolate. A supple mouthfeel and moderate tannins make this accessible now, while a squirt of acidity on the finish means it should work well with food.

A rounded, ripe, sweet wine, touched with caramel and dry figs. There’s generous, rich fruit, and a feeling of warmth from spice and dark plums. Ripe, leavened with acidity for aging.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An immensely satisfying Port from one of the top single quinta vineyards. Crasto also makes table wines, and this shows in its finely structured Ports with firm tannins. Flavors of enticing nuts and spices give complexity to a wine which should last over the next 10-15 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows some of the weakness of the vintage in its rather tart profile and flavors of red fruits and cranberries. A good effort, just short of the usual standard at this estate.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There's plenty of oak here, evidenced by the dominant chocolate and vanilla aromas, but there's also good fruit backing it up. Raspberries and cranberries provide a welcome counterpoint to the oak and extend through the long finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
From low-yielding 70-year-old vines, this is a beautifully structured wine, its dark tannins balanced by complex dark coffee, plum skins in a rich texture. It’s obviously a wine for aging —give it at least four years.

Gorgeously impressive wine, super-rich, balanced by acidity, juicy, concentrated red stone fruits, mulberries and dark chocolate. It is a powerhouse of ripe fruit, dark, ready to age for six years and more. One downside: high alcohol.
