Aged for eight years in oak cask, this is a magical, meditative wine from the grandfather of Valpolicella tradition. The wine opens with a bright ruby hue with lively aromas of apple skin, white cherry, cranberry and delicate shadings of soft spice, smoke and licorice.

A clean and easy wine from a venerable producer. While not a blockbuster, Giuseppe Quintarelli has made an earthy, leafy interesting wine with cherry and vanilla characteristics and some leathery qualities. Moderate tannins and a short finish indicate that it’s a drink-now type of wine.

There’s something magical about this wine: the purity, the elegance, the harmony, the immediate rush of intensity. This is one of Italy’s iconic wines thanks to the profound purity it delivers with notes of chocolate, leather, cherry, apple, cola and spice. It imparts loads of succulent flavor and is simply beautiful.

Big in alcohol at 16% and big in reputation; we liked this wine but did not really find it up to its icon status. The nose shows a bit of volatile acidity as well as a hint of horseradish, but it also delivers fine cherry and sugared cake notes. Rather intense in the mouth, with a touch of cherry skin and grit along with cola. Finishes long and correct.

Quintarelli is mostly known for his killer Amarones, but this lesser known white bottling paired well with our pasta tasting menu at flour + water in SF. The bottle shape hints at the style of wine--crisp and full of minerality, somwhere in the neighborhood of an Austrian gruner or riesling.

Nice, complex wine with mineral flavors. Medium body. Very refreshing, and great with pastas on a hot day.
