Mild citrus and basic stone-fruit aromas get going, with sweet, slightly candied white-fruit flavors taking up the cause. Talk about a simple, easygoing wine; this is it.

Ripe and creamy pear aromas precede a nutty palate with basic nectarine and banana flavors. Some spice and licorice on the finish, and then more banana. The feel is thick.

With dusty apple cider aromas and tingling acidity, this seems a lot like Galician Albariño even though it’s from Costers del Segre in Catalonia. Given its price, it boasts solid if pithy apple and gooseberry flavors, modest elegance and only a touch of bitterness on a green fruit finish. Drink soon.

A single-vineyard, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense color and a bouquet of wood and bitter cherries lead into a rich, meaty palate, with cedar and caramel flavors along with serious tannins giving a powerful, dry finish.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon with 24 months aging in American oak and three years of bottle aging before release. A deep, dark wine, with aromas of herbs and tobacco. A firm, serious palate and broad weight indicate that this would benefit from aging over the next two years. Strong wood flavors finish this concentrated wine.

A deep, vibrantly purple color and beautiful herbal perfumes make this really enticing. There is earthiness and a dense texture on the palate along with a rich but pure dark-plum character. The spicy wood adds just a touch to the ripeness of the fruit. Best Buy.

Grapey fruit on the nose smells confected—and that's the good news. Stemminess pervades the palate flavors, with some black fruit underneath. More stemminess and oak on the nose and the finish.

This Cab-Tempranillo blend was aged for 12 months in American oak. Red plum fruit is taut, and dotted with wood and eucalyptus accents. Though the wine’s medium bodied, the almost-tart fruit and wood make it feel leaner. Would probably be at its best with a platter of Spanish cheese and some membrillo. —D.M.

Generic peach and melon aromas are pleasant, clean and simple, while flavors of pineapple, melon, mango and kumquat are basic and sweet, almost like canned fruit salad. Finishes pithy, with some banana-like sweetness.
