Bears a strong resemblance to Bibao’s Limited Edition crianza. Though it’s a few bucks cheaper, this Tempranillo has the same cocoa-and-red fruit aromas on the nose, plus a piquant hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, red plums and cherries are swathed in oak and woodsy tannins, which makes for a somewhat unapproachable bottle for tonight’s dinner. Best to start drinking after 2004.

Medium and quite unyielding, this 90% Tempranillo (Mazuelo, Garnacha and Graciano make up the rest) has tangy wood and red plum-skin flavors. Offers understated foresty aromas, plus some stewy red fruit, on the nose. Hard cheese may bring out its best. —D.M.

Plenty of red berry and jam greet you on the nose, and beyond that there’s sweet barrel notes and a little wood smoke. It’s smart and snappy on the palate, but not all that long or complex. Finishing notes of tobacco add interest. Tasty and ready to go now.

Luxe raspberry and blackberry aromas blend with some leather to create a solid, soothing bouquet. The palate is fairly deep and pure, with sophisticated berry, cherry and mild herb flavors. Long and spicy late. No frills but a complete wine for a good price.

The bouquet is lean and intriguing, with aromas of clove and violets. But the fruit is light; there’s some sour cherry and rhubarb, yet even that’s a little on the tight and tough side. Good spice notes add character to this wine, which hits squarely but simple.

Dusty, slightly candied aromas are briary and pretty good, and overall it’s giving freshness, pop and red-fruit flavors touched up by dill, nutmeg and vanilla. Clean and lively on the finish, and more than competent as a whole.

Opens somewhat clipped and choppy, with citrusy aromas mixed with red fruits. The palate is healthy, lean and acidic, with bright plum and berry flavors softened by some creamy vanilla. A solid wine with punch, acidity and a good finish.

Good and lusty, with dark aromas of kirsch, chocolate, shoe polish, burnt oak and perfume. And while it may lack some focus, the palate is flush with ripe black fruit touched up by wood spice, pepper and herbs. Finishes generous and solid, with olive and savory herb notes. Drink now; 16,800 cases made. Imported by W.J. Deutsch & Sons.

Aromas of cherry sucking candy, sangria and citrus peel are easy and clean but not what you’d call sophisticated. The palate is forward and basic, with tangy cherry and plum skin flavors. It thickens a bit on the finish but always has a racy personality. Better with food due to grabby tannins and acids.

Ripe and rosy on the nose, with notes of milk chocolate and plum. Very zesty across the palate; the raspberry and cherry fruit almost elicits a pucker. The finish is snappy and fresh, while medium tannins fail to absorb the sharp acidity. Nonetheless it’s balanced and easy to drink.
