Though this wine offers the vibrant cherry fruit and pepper of a good New York Cab Franc, it’s a bit one-dimensional. On the nose, candied cherry and spice lead, followed by a slightly tart wave of cherry. Oak adds just a bit of interest. Pair with duck or fowl to soften it.

A simple but bright cherry and warm spice nose marks this Meritage, and on the palate, a soft array of berry and oaky spice follows. It’s not terribly intergrated or elegant, but the wine has a good overall flavor and will pair well with fowl or beef.

Structured, buttery oak flavors comprise this enjoyable wine. Heft from beginning to end and the viscous mouthfeel offers some indulgence, but the wall of oak offers little evidence of the flavors beyond, lending simplicity to a wine that, by variety, has potential to offer something more.

An Alsatian-style Riesling, this dry, firm wine has aromas of peach and citrus. Minerality backs the mouthfeel, while flavors of orange, melon, spice and peach pit play on the tongue. Strong acids and a long, minerally finish suggest that this wine will age gracefully over the next five years or more.

This firm, Alsatian-style dry Riesling will please fans of more esoteric, terroir driven-wines. Aromas of citrus and peach play on the nose, while a minerally backbone supports elegant flavors of orange and spice. A little oily on the palate and lacking some of the zest of more accessible Rieslings, this wine is still apt to please on many levels.

If you’re looking for a truly bone-dry Riesling from the Finger Lakes, look no further than Ravines. It’s uncharacteristically austere for the region, with a lean, light body and a mineral laden, wet-stone palate. Lots of freshly squeezed lime juice and a citrus rind finish makes this an elegant, drinkable choice.

This Bordeaux blend is light on its feet, with spicy anise liquor aromas that lead into fresh strawberry and raspberry fruit in the mouth. The medium, mouthwatering finish has a dusting of powdery tannins. A good complement to roast pork. Drink now to 2011.

Sunny and warm on the nose with aromas of honey, roasted hazelnuts and a touch of petroleum, this medium-bodied dry Riesling surprises with an unexpected austerity in the mouth. It’s an interesting transition, however, resulting in a sleek, steely wine with hints of chalk dust, bitter lime and canned pineapple flavors.

A clean, fruity nose of strawberry rhubarb is followed by a tingling array of spice, fruit and acid in this dry, dependable rose. Elegant and excellent for summer sipping, it has a spicy finish that adds character.
