A classic Clare Valley Riesling, with prominent lime zest and kiwi character upfront and an energetic, zesty mouth bursting with well-integrated acidity and green apple notes. Finishes on a tasty tone of lime cordial. Drink now or age a few years.

A top value in drink-now Shiraz, Reilly’s 2008 Barking Mad shows none of the overripe character that plagued the vintage. It’s almost floral on the nose, with an intense crème de framboise character. Raspberry, coffee and chocolate notes marry easily on the palate, and although it’s not that concentrated, it is full in the mouth and lushly textured on the finish. Drink now–2015.

It’s nice to know that some Australian wineries and importers have kept a lid on prices. Reilly’s 2003 Old Bushvine is a 75-25 blend that showcases Grenache’s soft, caressing texture. It’s full-bodied but silky, with sweetly ripe cherries matched by bold lashings of vanilla and spiced with hints of clove and cinnamon. Drink now.

There’s nice raspberry and pomegranate fruit here, along with some attractive bramble but it’s held back by a slight funkiness and confected notes in the mouth. Short, spirity finish. Drink up.

Light and fresh, with only 12% alcohol, this Riesling from reliable producer Reilly’s features scents of limes, wet stone and cinnamon, but doesn’t show enough intensity of flavor to merit a higher rating. It’s clean and refreshing, a light summertime sipper for pool or patio.

Although this is very good, it’s a bit of a disappointment compared to what this fine producer is capable of achieving. The bouquet is dark in overall tone and nearly impenetrable—with aeration the toasted, charcoal-like scents give way to hints of vanilla—while the flavors are surprisingly tart. Simple blackberry and boysenberry fruit flavors turn crisp and spicy on the finish.

Like Reilly’s Watervale bottling, this will certainly inspire debate. The nose offers pineapple, resin and waxy melon, and the palate deals a similar waxy, tart, Pixie-Stix kind of profile. I admire its tanginess and intensity—less enamored with the bulky feel—but its flavors are certainly atypical. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

This is a narrow wine, just shy of a mouthfilling, va-va-voom element that would have catapulted it into the next decile. Still, I enjoyed it very much. It has fragrant cinnamon and eucalyptus notes on the nose that continue on the palate, where blackberry and blueberry fruit reigns. Finishes medium-long. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.

You’ll like or dislike this wine. I liked it. I read the flavors profile as honeysuckle/floral/powder-on-chewing-gum, and another taster found it not unlike hard candy. Clean citrus and bubblegum powder aromas; one to try for yourself. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc.
