Once the sulfury fumes blow off, you get aromas of plums and tobacco and peppery spices. This wine shows how good Barbera can be when grown in a warm area like Temecula. It’s rich, round, soft, lush and velvety, and very dry, with exquisite tannins. There are even layers of complexity. —S.H.

From Temecula, a somewhat closed dry red wine, not showing much fruit or vibrancy now. There are modulated berry flavors, yet firm acidity and some hefty tannins dominate the palate. It has a round, supple elegance that’s likeable. —S.H.
