Gold-tinted and broad on the nose, with waxy, slightly mealy aromas of apple and buttered toast. The palate is ripe but soft, with melon and toast notes but also an underriding sour note. Vanilla and mushroom notes on the finish hint at complexity, but overall the wine strains to make the higher plane.

Fresh smelling, with lemon-lime the dominant scent. The palate offers a citrusy feel and flavors of green fruits such as lime and young banana. Quick, cleansing and fairly regular on the finish.

This wine is so filled with floral and herbal aromas as to be positively overbearing--like the first few breaths upon entering a flower shop. Light and frothy, it may hold more appeal for other tasters. No vintage is indicated on the bottle, but this is the current vintage of the green label Reserva Especial.

Savory, with a hint of anise and not much fruit remaining, this aged Cava finishes on a slightly sweet-and-sour note. This is the red label Gran Reserva; no vintage is indicated on the bottle, but the 1996 is the current release.

Fresh and slightly green, marked by aromas and flavors of herbs, green apples and limes. It’s light and lean, fairly brisk and acidic. Note that there’s no vintage indicated on the bottle; this is the regular red label.

With 25% Merlot blended in, this basic Cab will serve most purposes. It’s light, with raspberry aromas and plum, berry and mild caramel flavors. Finishes fruity and on the money, with good flavors and precision.

Powerful and beefy on the nose, but lacking in refinement. And overall the bouquet seems slightly pickled and prickly, while there’s little iden tifiable fruit to the palate. Mostly it’s thin and just mildly peachy.
