Red fruit is accented with dark earth, oak and caramel. Has smooth tannins on the palate, and wheaty, oaky notes on the back end. Easy to drink; standard, but very good.

The first of Yalumba’s forays into Western Australia, the Cab fruit is from a 27-year-old vineyard. It’s high quality, particularly for the price, and full and lively in the mouth. Bright blackberry and plum fruit gets a dose of eucalyptus and black pepper on the palate; finishes up with bright plum fruit.

This is a fairly full-bodied Cabernet that manages to be intense without being overbearing, balancing cassis and tobacco shadings with a hint of tomato leaf. The tannins are supple enough to make it approachable now. Ringbolt is the Margaret River outpost of the Yalumba group of wineries.

A Western Australia offshoot of the Yalumba empire, Ringbolt’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon offers solid quality at a reasonable price. It’s medium-bodied and elegant, with prominent herbal notes balanced by cassis and chocolate. Long on the finish, where dried spice and vanilla notes emerge. Drink now–2012.

Smells meaty, with a streak of eucalyptus. Taut, cool black-plum fruit warms the palate, where there’s also a substantial amount of oak. Very good—it’s nice to find hallmarks of the region for a reasonable price. Imported by Negociants USA, Inc.

From Robert Hill Smith's (Yalumba) western outpost, this is a medium-bodied, crisp Cabernet with leafy, tea-like notes, decent cassis fruit and a touch of chocolate. Finishes tart and slightly dusty, but probably not for long cellaring; drink now-2015.
