Here’s an elegant and pure Barbaresco that delivers an aromatic embroidery of spice, wild berry, incense and sandalwood fragrances. The wine is firm and tart in the mouth, with an excellent balance between freshness and tannic structure.

Serraboella Barbera d’Alba is loaded with aged aromas of dried fruit, prunes, apricots, tobacco and Indian spice. The wine shows black, inky concentration and fine, polished tannins.

Here’s a spicy and elegant expression of Pinot Nero (from Piedmont in northern Italy) with very nice intensity and staying power. You’ll get aromas of wild berry, vanilla and light graphite layers followed by a smooth, supple feel in the mouth.

Serraboella is among the most important vineyards in the Neive part of Barbaresco and commands some of the highest prices for its fruit. You can see why. This Riserva has held up beautifully to the 2003 heat and boast luscious aromas of ripe fruit, plum, spice and black licorice. It’s a powerful and meaty expression that will appeal to those who like a rounder style.

You could describe this wine as linear and elongated. Everything about it seems to suggest length and longevity including its well-chiseled aromas of graphite, charcoal mineral, tar, licorice and black currant. It offers ash and smoke in the mouth but is not flat or tired. In fact, it tastes succulent, austere and important.

Gentle wood shavings add a layer of softness and concentration to this well-integrated Barbaresco. This is a pristine and ruby-colored wine with a playful bouquet of tart cherry, truffle and tar backed by firm tannins and zesty acidity that guarantee a long aging future ahead. Drink 2012–2015.

This Barbera d’Alba is definitely on the ripe side with chewy aromas of mature berry fruit. Acidity and firm structure kick in at the back and those ripe berry flavors last long over the wine’s thick, juicy finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There are some tertiary aromas here of cola, Madeira, raisin and licorice that make you think the wine is older than it actually is. The mouthfeel is dense and rich but because the wine seems to be aging fast, don’t wait long to drink it.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a slightly oxidized note here that masks some of the fresh fruit, although the sweet sparkler’s mouthfeel is intact. You’ll get floral and fruit flavors backed by creamy foam.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Pretty oak tones of toasted nut and vanilla cream are evident without being overwhelming or exaggerated against the wine’s fresh forest berry aromas. There are touches of bitterness and rawness at this young stage in the wine’s life that will soften with time.
