Fruity and kirsch-like, this is a big, supple fruit bomb of a Barolo that should firm up and develop extra complexity in time. For now, it’s a bit raw and unformed. Drink 2008–2015.

Rivetto is making some very interesting wines and is worth keeping a close eye on. The Leon Barolo opens with plump aromas of coffee, cherry, blackberry, spice and ripe berry fruit. It’s a generous and velvety wine with firm tannins and a dusty, finely textured mouthfeel.

This beautiful Barbaresco from Rivetto opens with a tight, compact style that is embedded with a high level of aromatic intensity with lingering tones of red berry, vanilla, cinnamon and sweet spice. It is streamlined, taut and very long in endurance.

This is a rich and chocolaty expression of Barbera d’Alba with thick concentration and immediate aromas of black currant and cherry. The wine is dense and extracted with smooth, drying tannins and a piquant blast of acidity on the close.

The Lirano Soprano Barbera d’Alba is ripe with aromas of coffee and freshly ground espresso bean, followed by chocolate and a playful touch of white pepper. The fruit tones hold up nicely to round off the bouquet and the wine balances richness and freshness.

An up-and-coming star of Barolo Serralunga, Rivetto delivers a supersized wine with immense concentration and rock-solid structure. In fact, this wine needs another 10–15 years of aging to complete its long evolution. Already present, however, are tonic tones of red cherry, coffee, mocha, spice and cured meat.

Rich and modern, with dense extraction and raw notes of cherry, blackberry and spice, this wine is very representative of the new face of Barbera d’Alba. There are sweet fruit notes followed by equally sweet oak tones of cinnamon, chocolate and spice.

Sharp black-cherry aromas carry notes of cocoa and leather. Typically tight and tannic, with flavors of meaty plum, earth and cherry zest. Modest on the finish and clean. Also very drying from front to back.

Smooth and stylish, with cedar notes and energetic fruit that falls toward raspberry and cherry. Quite delicious and full of verve; it jumps from the glass, showing acidity and pizzazz before fading gracefully. A bit of oak and licorice on the finish is good for an extra bump in character.

Blackberry, licorice and mint aromas are followed by plum and other red-fruit flavors. Quite fleshy on the back end, and admittedly a bit heavy. Still, there’s good cherry flavor and ripe tannins.
